-
Photograph of the Montgomery Hall, Lahore. The hall has a high vaulted ceiling which is hung with glass chandeliers. There are two storeys with a metal railing running the parameter of the second floor, interspaced with columns. Small tables holding flags, shields and trophies line the edge of the hall.
This is one of a series of photographs from a published volume documenting the tour the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, made of India in 1875-76. He attended a ball in the Montgomery Hall during his stay in Lahore. The hall was built probably about 1866 and was named after Sir Robert Montgomery (1809-87) who was a Colonial administrator; he became Lieutenant-Governor of Lahore from 1859 to 1865. It is now part of Qauid-e-Azam Library in Lahore, Pakistan.Provenance
Acquired by King Edward VII when Prince of Wales
