Photograph of the Katra Masjid Mosque, Mathura. The mosque is in the Mughal architectural style with a central section decorated with floral motifs and topped by two chhatris, elevated dome-shaped pavilions. There are four minarets, with the upper section missing from the minaret to the far left. Stairs lead up to the mosque, and there is a man sitting to the left of the entrance.
This is one of a series of photographs of Agra by Dr John Murray which were published in a volume with accompanying captions by J Middleton. Murray was an East India Company doctor who used waxed-paper negatives to produce photographs of the Mughal architecture of Agra and the surrounding area.Provenance
