Photograph of the Auetor in Kassel. The monument consists of an archway with a one storey building with a colonade to either side. There are statues spaced at intervals along the roof of the buildings and a large statue of an eagle above the archway. There is a group of people gathered in front of the archway including a row of soldiers. There is a cobbled courtyard in the foreground. The Auetor was transformed into a war memorial in the 1870s to commemorate the Franco-Prussian War. The archway was partially displaced in 1907 to accomodate a new theatre, and ultimately destroyed by bombs during the Second World War.
