Photograph of the Monument to Nicholas I in St Petersburg. The monument consists of a statue of a horse facing left with its front legs raised, supporting the figure of Nicholas I in military uniform. It is mounted on a tall tiered base with a statue of a young woman at each corner. Four lamp posts surround the statue and there is a fence around the base. A man wearing an apron is standing in front of the fence and there is a three storey neo-classical building behind. The Monument to Nicholas I, in St Isaac's Square, was completed in 1859.
