Photograph of the Monument to Catherine the Great and the Alexandrinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. The sculpture shows Catherine the Great wearing ceremonial robes and holding a sceptre in her right hand and an olive wreath in her left. Below there is a sequence of statues of the most prominent individuals of her reign. Steps lead up to the statue and it is surrounded by a low railing. Behind to the left is the Alexandrinsky Theatre. It has a porch with a series of columns and a statue of a carriage and four horses above. There is another large building to the right. The Monument to Catherine the Great was unveiled in 1873. The prominent individuals that feature in the sculpture include politicians, artists and scientists, reflecting the wide achievements of her reign.
