-
Photograph of the Assumption Church and the Grand Hall on Sennaya Square in St Petersburg. The church has a series of different sized towers with onion shaped cupolas. The large Grand Hall is in front of the church. To the left is a road, busy with carriages and pedestrians. In the foreground there is a bus. Sennaya Square hosted one of the largest markets in St Petersburg during the eighteenth century. The Assumption Church, popularly known as the Saviour Church, was built in the centre of the square in the 1750s. It was destroyed in 1961.
