Gardens of Schloss Neustrelitz c.1880
-
Photograph of the gardens at Schloss Neustrelitz. There is a fountain in the foreground, with a man and three women standing beside it. Behind is a wide path with a number of statues at the centre and a gazebo with columns at the end. There are trees to either side.
Schloss Neustrelitz was the principal palace of the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The palace was destroyed by fire in 1945 but the gardens survived. The Mecklenburg-Strelitz family had close ties to the British Royal family dating from the marriage of Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz to King George III. -
