-
Photograph of the sitting room of Grand Duchess Augusta of Mecklenburg-Strelitz at Schloss Neustrelitz. There is a round table in the centre of the room holding books, vases and photographs. There are two armchairs behind and other items of furniture around the edge of the room. There are windows on the far wall and a chandelier on the ceiling. An oil portrait of a man, possibly her father Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge (1774-1850), is resting on an easel to the left.
Schloss Neustrelitz was the principal palace of the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The palace was destroyed by fire in 1945. The Mecklenburg-Strelitz family had close ties to the British Royal family dating from the marriage of Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz to King George III. -
