Great State Ballroom at Schloss Neustrelitz c.1880

-
Photograph of the Great State Ballroom at Schloss Neustrelitz. The room is high and has small round windows just below the ceiling. On the far wall there are two large oil portraits, one of a male and one of a female. There are sofas below them and chairs lining the edges of the room. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling and there is a large urn to the right.
Schloss Neustrelitz was the principal palace of the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. It was destroyed by fire in 1945. The Mecklenburg-Strelitz family had close ties to the British Royal family dating from the marriage of Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz to King George III. -
