This painting may belong to a series of eleven paintings by the Spanish painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617-82) on the lives of Saints that were displayed in the Franciscan Monastery of Santa Maria de las Cuevas in Seville. These paintings helped secure Murillo's reputation as the foremost Baroque painter in Seville and Spain as a whole.
