Puerta de los Palos, Seville c. 1859
-
Photograph of Puerta de los Palos, or Door of the Sticks, on the east facade of Seville Cathedral. The door is slightly ajar, above which is a relief showing the Adoration of the Magi within the tympanum. Above the tympanum are two archivolts that culminate in a pointed gothic arch. Carved lintels flank the door.
The Door of the Sticks was so-called due to the wooden fencing that separated this part of the Cathedral from the rest of the building. The relief of the Adoration of the Magi above the door was executed by Miguel Perrin (1498-1552) in the early 16th century.Provenance
