Twizel Castle 1887
-
Photograph from an album of Twizel or Twizell Castle in Northumberland. The five story building is partially obscured by trees with the River Till beneath it.
There has been a fortified building on the site of the castle since the early 15th century. Work began on building the castle featured in this photograph during the late 18th century by Sir Francis Blake, but the project was never completed. Today the castle stands at only two storeys high having been robbed of its stone during the construction of Tillmouth Park that was built during the 1880's. -
