The cairn bears an inscription which reads: To the Beloved Memory of Prince Albert, the Great and Good Prince Consort, Erected by his Broken-hearted Widow, VICTORIA R' George Washington Wilson took a number of views, both close to and at a distance from the cairn; the latter to show the cairn in context on the hillside. This photograph is a later carbon copy of the original albumen photograph. Carbon was a process that was less susceptible to fading, unlike an albumen print that is prone to discolouration over time.
