Photograph of sculptures from the southern Vimana (sanctuary) at the Great Temple of Hullabeed.
On the right side of the sculptural group Vamana Avatar of Vishnu (the dwarf) is represented in two tableaux. The left tableau shows the king pouring water on the dwarf's hand as a form of oath; in the right tableau the dwarf takes the proper form of Vishnu and strides across the ocean. The goddess on the left of the photograph is Kali, shown with the emblem of a skull in her left hand and above a group of dancing skeletons. -
