Photograph of the sculptures from the pavilion in the centre of the west front of the temple at Hullabeed.
The text observes that this section of sculpture 'presents one of the most finished and best-preserved groups in the whole building'. The main focal points of the group are the figures of Vishnu and his wife, the goddess Lakshmi, who is shown dancing, to the 'intense delight' of the musicians who accompany her performance. Vishnu is a central god and one of the three deities in Hinduism. In sacred texts, he is described as having a dark complexion of 'water-filled clouds' and having four arms. He is depicted as a pale blue being, as are his incarnations Rama and Krishna. -
