Photograph of the Jain Temple at Guduk. The focal point of the image is the Vimana, or sanctuary, an elaborately carved stone structure that is star-shaped in plan with twenty-four points. This is surmounted by a pointed roof called the Sikra, or spire, the terminal of which is either unfinished or has been destroyed. The temple is constructed in the Chalukya style of ancient Indian architecture. The temple was constructed in 978 AD and was considered one of the most perfect examples of Indian temple architecture.
In the text Guduk is described as 'one of the most prosperous towns in the Dharwar Collectorate, celebrated for its manufactures of silk and cotton cloths and its beautiful architectural remains'' and situated 'about five miles from Lukhoondee'. -
