Photograph of an arched stone carving of Ganesha, the Indian god of wisdom. The image is a vignette on the title page of the book. The figure of the elephant is shown from a frontal viewpoint and is dressed in an elaborate traditional Indian costume with bangles on its ankles and wrists and a prominent headdress. The carving rests on a separate stone plinth.
Ganesha is one of the most celebrated of the Hindu gods and is identified by his elephant head. He is revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and a deity of intellect and wisdom. -
