Photograph of an open door in a 16th century house that is the entrance to Shakespeare's birthplace in Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon. In front of the entrance is a pointed wrought iron fence. On the left of the doorway are diamond leaded windows with a window box below. On the left door jamb is a plaque announcing the fact that the building is location of Shakespeare's birthplace.
This is a photograph from an album of photographs of places and buildings relating to Shakespeare's life in Stratford-upon-Avon. It was presented to Princess Elizabeth to mark her visit to Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon on the 8-9 June 1951 during the Festival of Britain. Hall's Croft, the former home of William Shakespeare's daughter and son-in-law, was the administrative hub for activities relating to the Festival of Britain in Stratford.Provenance
