Photograph of the grave of King Edward VII's favourite Irish Terrier Jack. The epitaph states 'Here Lies "Jack" King Edward's Favourite Irish Terrier Who Only Lived Twelve Hours After Reaching His Native Land. He Died At The Viceregal Lodge on July 21 1903'. There is another taller monument behind and flowers have been left in front of the grave.
Jack was accompanying the King and Queen on a visit to Ireland in 1903 when he died suddenly while the party was staying at the Viceregal Lodge in Dublin. Jack was buried in the grounds of the lodge and given this headstone. When King Edward VII returned to London he kept a locker on his writing desk which contained strands of Jack's hair. -
