Wearing armour and helmets, both figures are standing on crouched demons (Jaki) just visible behind a low wooden rail. On the left, Zōchō-ten (Southern King) holds a short shaft in his right hand, whilst his left hand rests on his hip. On the right, Kōmoku-ten (Western King) holds a writing brush in his right hand and a sutra in his left. The photograph was taken at Saidai-ji in Nara.
