Photograph the fourteenth-century wooden statue of Prince Shōtoku, Aged Two (Shōtoku Taishi Nisaizō). The prince appears in an attitude of prayer beside a reliquary. The statue has been placed a level lower than the reliquary on what appears to be a joint base, covered in silk textile. Both objects are set against a single dark backdrop. The pose struck by Prince Shōtoku relates to the story that in the spring of his second year, the Prince clasped his hands in prayer whilst facing eastward to chant "hail to the Buddha" (Namubutsu).
