Samson, a sledge dog, stands chained at the entrance of a 'dogloo' on the ice. Samson, the second heaviest of the sledge dogs, almost dwarfed the smallest men on the ship. After Endurance became trapped in the ice, the dogs were disembarked and installed in new accommodation, ’dogloos’, on the ice. The men who would take part in the crossing of Antarctica could now start to train their dog teams.
