Photograph of Endurance in the background, surrounded by pack ice. Endurance is marooned in a sea of ice with no way forward, no way back, at the mercy of the wind and currents. The vastness of the ice-field is reinforced by the relative flatness of its surface and the almost unbroken horizon.
