Photograph of a sledge team comprising two men with their dogs pictured underneath an overhanging glacier. The Barne Glacier runs down from the volcano Mount Erebus towards the west coast of Ross Island, ending between Cape Royds and Cape Evans (where Scott’s hut was based). Its vast size and location meant it became the subject of many dramatic photographs by Ponting. Here the ice towers over two men and their dog team as they wait for the photographer to finish.
