Dryburgh Abbey - Tomb of Sir Walter Scott 1859

-
Stereoscopic photograph of the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey with a view towards Sir Walter Scott's tomb that is enclosed by tall railings. A rusticated wooden bench stands facing the tomb. This photograph was reviewed in the British Journal of Photography, January 1860.
Dryburgh Abbey was founded in the 12th century and is the burial place of Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) together with his wife and son. Other photographs of Sir Walter Scott's tomb proved successful commercially and were sold in great numbers, such was the continued interest in the writer who died in 1832.Provenance
