Drawing on the work of both Cecil Beaton (see RCIN 2999826) and Pietro Annigoni, Annie Leibovitz similarly presents Queen Elizabeth II as an emblematic figure in a cloak enveloping her frame against the landscape. Using digital post-production, Leibovitz has superimposed the figure onto a digitally enhanced photograph of the Buckingham Palace gardens. Depicted against this turbulent and stormy sky, she is presented as a reassuring symbol of stability in a changing world.
