Photograph of King George VI (1895-1952) and Queen Elizabeth (1900-2002): short half-length portrait, both in right profile. The Queen wears the Oriental Tiara, made for Queen Victoria in 1853. Possibly a composite photograph.
In December 1947 a request from Wilfred Paling (1883-1971), Postmaster General was presented to Sir Alan Lascelles (1887-1981), Private Secretary to George VI, for a commemorative stamp to celebrate the King and the Queen's Silver Wedding Anniversary. Permission was given and the King and Queen sat for Dorothy Wilding Studio on 15 December 1947. The 2½ d and £1 stamps were issued on the anniversary, 26 April 1948 and used by many countries around the world.
