He is wearing a military uniform with ropes, epaulets, and various medals (Star of the Order of the Garter, Order of the Thistle; Royal Victorian Medal). He is holding his hat in his right hand and gloves in his left hand which is resting on the hilt of his sword. The portrait is set against a neutral background.
