The Font in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle 1899
-
Photograph of the font in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The font is situated at the west end of the south aisle of the nave and is decorated with carvings of the patron saints of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. It is a memorial to Canon Frederick Anson and was designed by J.L. Pearson in 1888. It is made of rich alabaster with a base of Frosterley marble.
The nineteenth century font was preceded by a Coade stone font in the gothic style. Its octagonal base had eight niches housing statues and it was placed in the south transept of the chapel. It was destroyed in 1879. -
