The Prince Albert Monument at Windsor Castle 1899

-
Photograph of the Prince Albert Monument in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The focal point of the image is the Cenotaph of Prince Albert by Triqueti, featuring a white marble figure of the prince resting on a sarcophagus.
Originally Henry VII built the memorial chapel as his burial place, but later abandoned it for a tomb at Westminster. The chapel was subsequently bestowed by Henry VIII upon Cardinal Wolsey and was known as the Wolsey Chapel. On the death of Prince Albert in 1861 Queen Victoria converted it into a splendid Gothic memorial for her husband, under the supervision of Sir G. G. Scott. The chapel also contains the tombs of George III, George IV and William IV. -
