Half-length portrait of King George VI wearing Naval Admiral's uniform. He faces 3/4 left and stands with his hands on his hips. Mounted on card.
Following his iconic portrait of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill taken in 1941, Yousuf Karsh was chosen by King George VI to be portrayed in naval uniform two years later. Karsh’s lighting, in particular his use of rim lights, a type of backlighting, contributes to the heroic framing of the subject, and is typical of his style. -
