The Coronation Chair in a place of safety c. 1915 - 1918
-
Photograph of the Coronation Chair in the under croft, Westminster Abbey, described as 'a place of safety'. At the foot of the chair lies the shield of Edward III (1312-77), and on the right lies his two handed sword. On the left of the chair is the saddle and shield of Henry V (1387-1422). Stone statuettes and bronze Royal effigies feature in the middle and background. The objects have been relocated to the under croft for security reasons.
The Coronation Chair is marked with what appears to be light colour paint. This is the result of an attack on the chair on 11 June 1914, attributed to the Suffragettes. -
