Photograph of Sir James Hope Grant. He is standing with his head turned slightly to the right and his right arm resting on the table beside him. He is wearing military uniform with a sash and insignia and has a sword by his side. There is a hat with a feather plume and a coat on the table to the left and a chair to the right. The photograph is surrounded by watercolour illustrations by the military artist Orlando Norie showing British forces attacking Russian guns during the Battle of Balaklava. Sir James Hope Grant had a distinguished military career and served as the Commander of the British Forces in Hong Kong.
