Photograph of the Scutari Monument in the English Cemetery, Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul). The monument is a stone obelisk on a square base with a statue of an angel at each corner. There are other graves surrounding the monument and a building can be seen in the distance to the left.
The Scutari Monument was constructed in commemoration of the British military personnel who were killed in the Crimean War. It was designed by Baron Carlo Marochetti and its design unveiled to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at the Peace Fête marking the end of the war which was held at the Crystal Palace in May 1856.Provenance
