Photograph of officers from the Indian Contingent who served in the Anglo-Egyptian War. They are arranged in two rows with the front row seated on wooden benches. Among them are Major William George Wolfe Macbay, Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Richard Pennington, Subadar Major Molladad Khan and Ressaldar Major Jahour Khan. They are all wearing military uniform. There is a stone wall behind which is partially covered by a climbing plant.
This photograph was taken on the East Terrace of Windsor Castle. Subadar Major Molladad Khan and Ressaldar Major Jahour Khan received the Order of the Indian Empire from Queen Victoria during their visit.
This photograph comes from an album from Queen Victoria’s collection titled 'AFGHANISTAN AND EGYPT PORTRAITS 1879 AND 1882' (RCIN 2501413). The album contains photographs of British soldiers who served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-80) and Anglo-Egyptian War (1882).
