Photograph of non-commissioned officers from the Life Guards who served in the Anglo-Egyptian War. Standing from left to right are R Stroud, S Spence, E Holt, A Candler, J Baylis, H Hibbard, J Midgley, T Donnelly, I Golding, H Hole, R Shaw, W Pinkney, J Rice, J Edwards, J Jestico, T Parry and S Cox. All are wearing the ceremonial uniform of the Life Guards including a helmet with a feather plume. Stroud is holding a trumpet and Shaw is holding a flag. There is a large brick building with an exterior staircase behind them.
The Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882 repressed the nationalist ‘Urabi Revolt and led to increased British control of Egypt.
This photograph comes from an album from Queen Victoria’s collection titled 'AFGHANISTAN AND EGYPT PORTRAITS 1879 AND 1882' (RCIN 2501413). The album contains photographs of British soldiers who served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-80) and Anglo-Egyptian War (1882).
