Photograph of five non-commissioned officers from the Life Guards who served in the Anglo-Egyptian War. Standing from left to right are Trumpeter I Golding, Corporal Major H Hole, Corporal Major J Edwards, Corporal T Donnelly and Corporal E Holt. All are wearing the ceremonial uniform of the Life Guards including a helmet with a feather plume. Golding is holding a trumpet and Edwards is holding a flag. The other officers are holding Martini-Henry rifles and swords. There is a brick wall and a wooden door behind them.
The Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882 repressed the nationalist ‘Urabi Revolt and led to increased British control of Egypt.
This photograph comes from an album from Queen Victoria’s collection titled 'AFGHANISTAN AND EGYPT PORTRAITS 1879 AND 1882' (RCIN 2501413). The album contains photographs of British soldiers who served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-80) and Anglo-Egyptian War (1882).
