Photograph of the Wonderboom Pass on the Rustenberg Road, about three miles from Pretoria. A river is running through the pass with grass around it. There are steep rocky cliffs to either side. This area had been part of the South African Republic, an independent Boer-ruled country, but was annexed by the British in 1877. It subsequently changed hands several times between the British and the Boers in the late nineteenth century.
