Photograph of a camp of the 13th (Prince Albert's) Light Infantry. There is an area of open land on which there are two tents, a flagpole and a number of uniformed soldiers. There is a pile of stones in the foreground to the left. Beyond the flagpole there are rows of uniformed soldiers, and there are soldiers mounted on horses to the right. There are rows of tents in the distance. The 13th (Prince Albert's) Light Infantry were the first regiment to enter the South African Republic, an independent Boer-ruled country, when it was annexed by the British in 1877. It subsequently changed hands several times between the British and the Boers in the late nineteenth century.
