Photograph of Umgeni Falls, a waterfall within the Umgeni River. There is a rocky pool below the high waterfall. A group of white men and women are sitting along the edges of the waterfall in the foreground.
The Umgeni River ran through the Province of Natal, a former British colony in south-eastern Africa. This photograph was taken during the Anglo-Zulu War (1879), which ended the independence of the neighbouring Zulu Kingdom and brought it under British control.Provenance
