Photograph of farm buildings in the Colony of Natal. There are two buildings, both with thatched roofs. In front of the buildings to the left there is a carriage pulled by two horses. Two women are sitting in the carriage and there is a man standing beside them to the right. There is a cart and horse to the right. Men, women and children are gathered in small groups around the two vehicles. The Colony of Natal was a British colony in south-eastern Africa. This photograph was taken during the Anglo-Zulu War (1879), which ended the independence of the neighbouring Zulu Kingdom and brought it under British control.
