-
Photograph of Ashby's Mill near Durban. The mill is a stone building with two chimneys and a shoot for wood to the right. Men are loading sacks onto wooden carts in the foreground and there is a group of cows and workmen behind them. There are hills behind the mill. Durban was a port in the Colony of Natal, a British colony in south-eastern Africa. This photograph was taken during the Anglo-Zulu War (1879), which ended the independence of the neighbouring Zulu Kingdom and brought it under British control.
