Photograph of two Zulu women described as 'witch finders'. They are kneeling together, with the woman to the right resting her right arm across the other woman's shoulders. Their breasts are exposed and they are wearing rough skirts and multiple necklaces. Both are holding a short brush.
Witch finders were members of the Zulu community who sought out those who had committed crimes. This photograph was taken during the Anglo-Zulu War (1879), which ended the independence of the Zulu Kingdom and brought it under British control.Provenance
