Photograph of the Russian fortress at Sevastopol. In the foreground there is a small pier to the right and machinery and other debris on the shore to the left. Across the water there are five large buildings in a row, with hills behind. The dock shears can be seen to the right of the buildings. The Siege of Sevastopol lasted eleven months, with the allied British, French and Turkish forces eventually capturing the city on the 8th September 1855.
