Photograph of some of the ruined white buildings of Sevastopol. The facades of buildings line the back and right hand side of a courtyard which is filled with rubble. The buildings are all badly damaged, and there is a ruined small domed building at the centre of the courtyard. After an eleven month siege the city of Sevastopol was captured by the allied British, French and Turkish forces on the 8th September 1855. The city was badly damaged during the siege, and many of the grandest buildings lay in ruins.
