General Barnard & servants 1855
-
Photograph of General Barnard (1799-1857) with four servants. General Barnard stands at the centre of the group bending forwards slightly with his right arm raised as he speaks to a man who is sitting opposite him on an upturned trunk. A man stands in the doorway of a wooden hut and another servant kneels on the ground to the right lifting up a kettle. There is a tent to the right and a birdcage on top of a barrel to the left. General Barnard served during the Crimean War and later died of cholera on active service in India.
