Zouaves in Marching Order 5 - 5 May 1855
-
Photograph of four Zouave soldiers gathered in an area of open land. Two lie on the ground facing each other with equipment spread out around them. Two other Zouaves stand to the left with the soldier in front holding a long gun. They are all wearing the traditional Zouave uniform of loose trousers, open jackets and turbans and have rucksacks with them. Zouave regiments from Algeria served with the French army during the Crimean War. It was the first time that they had fought outside of North Africa.
