-
Photograph of four Zouave soldiers gathered in an area of open land. Two lie on the ground with one seated and another standing to the right. They are all wearing the traditional Zouave uniform of loose trousers, open jackets and turbans. All are holding a long gun. Zouave regiments from Algeria served with the French army during the Crimean War. It was the first time that they had fought outside of North Africa.
