A pair of tall-backed chairs of state in the form of Louis XIV style bèrgeres of carved and giltwood, upholstered in red silk damask. Scrolled acanthus ornament borders the upholstery and the baluster legs are joined by four scrolled acanthus stretchers meeting in central hub.
Provenance
Made for King George V and Queen Mary when Prince and Princess of Wales, for their use at the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra at Westminster Abbey, 9 August 1902. They were sent to York House, the London residence of the Prince and Princess, on 14 August 1902.
Used by King Charles III and The Queen Consort, at Westminster Hall, to receive addresses from the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament, 12 September 2022. -
