A badly-broken 8"x6 half-tone plate or glass plate negative of a reproduction of the painting of Queen Victoria and her family by Winterhalter, photographed by Mardon, Sons & Hall, 1953, photographed on top of contemporary newspapers. There is an accompanying note from the Assistant Comptroller at St James's Palace to the Deputy Surveyor of Pictures, dated 1 July 1953: I send you herewith a half tone block and a glass negative of Queen Victoria and her Family by Winterhalter, which have been surrendered by Mardon, Sons and Hall. Please put into safe keeping.
